Will Your ‘Third Act’ Be Retirement or Refirement?
If you answered YES to one or more of these questions, you’re not alone!
While many people say they’re looking forward to or are already enjoying their retirement, the truth is that many are feeling lost, lonely, bored, and disconnected from people and life. I remember exactly how it felt! I was filled with trepidation about the proverbial ‘third act’ of life, but as I began pondering the myriad possibilities of things I could do in my retirement years, fear turned to excitement! My REFIREMENT* was born!
As a singer/entertainer, it was clear that my ‘third act’ would involve musical pursuits in some capacity. From my alter-ego, The Ukulele Lady, to my women’s choral group (BIG shout out to the harmonic angels of the Sounds of Superior Chorus!) and my recently formed quartet, Tonixx, I have been raising my voice loud and strong and taking full advantage of what this time of life has to offer.
Fans of the poet Dylan Thomas will recall that he urged his readers to “not go gentle into that good night… and to rage, rage against the dying of the light.” The same sentiment echoes in a more recent quote from Dr. Edward Kelly, entrepreneur, researcher and facilitator:
“Everyone who lives long enough gets to have a third age; not everyone gets to live a third act!”
As you contemplate joining the ranks of those entering their ‘third act’ do you want to “go gently into that good night” or do you want to live your potentially thirty remaining years with joy, purpose and meaning?
Will it be retirement or refirement?
Will your ‘third act’ be worthy of a standing ovation? Or any of the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) awards?
